Communication is an essential tool used by people from birth to death. It allows us to exchange information with others for many reasons. However, 1 in 10 Canadians has a speech, language, or hearing problem. For people with communication disorders, the services of a speech-language pathologist or audiologist may help.
Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists diagnose and treat individuals with hearing, swallowing or communication impairment. Both professions assist people so that they are better able to function more efficiently in their daily life activities. Whether working in private practice, in schools, or in hospitals, the focus is on assessing the cause of the impairment or disorder, and then devising the most effective treatment plan.
